Local florists prepare for Valentine's Day

With Valentine's Day being one of their busiest times of the year, florists have prepared for months

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Valentine's Day is Wednesday, and that means flower shops are making final preparations for one of their busiest days of the year.

“It’s the most fun time of the year, it’s like Christmas in February,”  Irwin Wilson said.

The season of love is here…and with that comes shopping for flowers, it’s a day that requires a lot of preparation for flower shops.

Irwin Wilson, who is the owner of Forest Acres Florist, says his business started preparing for Valentine's Day months in advance.

“It starts for us in November to make sure that we can meet the needs because the order volume is very high,” he said

A small gesture, to show your love. Flower shops like Carolyn's Flowers and Gifts are also preparing for the big day.

“We are definitely going to do easily ten times the amount of orders for Valentines than we would do on a normal day,” Antoine Kelly, florist at Carolyn's Flowers and Gifts said.  "On a normal day, we probably deliver about 20 orders whereas for tomorrow we'll deliver about 150 orders."

And all that work is good for the people who hope to get those flowers on Wednesday.

“Everybody loves flowers on any day, but especially tomorrow. Even if you’re thinking about doing it for someone, just do it because anyone will appreciate it,” Tylor Garrison said.

Kelly says there’s one thing about being a florist on Valentine's Day that's so special

“One of the best things about it is knowing that you are going to have people that are going to be happy and appreciative of the arrangements,” he said.
