Harper's Restaurant in Columbia's Five Points Shuts Down

Harper's, a mainstay restaurant in the heart of Columbia's Five Points, has shut down for good.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Harper's, a mainstay restaurant in the heart of Columbia's Five Points, has shut down for good.

The restaurant posted a sign Wednesday on their storefront saying that they has ceased operation after 27 years in business.

"After a great 27 years Harper's Restaurant has now closed," the sign reads. "We want to thank all of our loyal guests for all their continued support over the years.

"Please come visit Harper's in Charlotte or Greensboro if you are in the area."

There was no explanation of the sudden closure. The restaurant had been open the previous day.

This was put up outside of Harper's in Columbia on April 19, 2017.

One employee told News19 he did not find out about the closing until he went to the restaurant Wednesday morning.

Deborah Rosen, says she was a frequent customer, came to the store to get a spinach dip, but now that can't happen. She still had $91.21 left on her gift card.

Harper's was located along Harden Street just as you enter Five Points from Devine Street.

"The Five Points Association is disheartened to hear the news of long-time Five Points merchant, Harper's Restaurant, closing its doors," said the Five Points Association in a statement. "They were an active member of the Association and a beloved business in our village.

"Every district goes through change and not unlike the rest of downtown Columbia, Five Points is experiencing tremendous growth. We are excited and optimistic for the future of our community."

News19 has attempted to contact the company's management for further details.
