Ofc. Brian Meador was working at his desk when the child's parents came into the police department in a panic.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A South Bend police officer is being hailed a hero for helping save the life of a young child.
Ofc. Brian Meador was at his desk when a couple entered the lobby in a panic, the department said in a Facebook post. Hearing the commotion, Meador rushed to the couple, who told him their child needed help.
They told officers they were driving to the hospital when the child became unresponsive and stopped at the police department to get help.
Security video from the lobby of the police department shows Meador grab the child from the parents and begin chest compressions. By the time medics arrived in the lobby, police say the child was responsive.

Earlier this week, Officer Brian Meador was finishing up some work at his desk when he heard a commotion in our lobby. Concerned, he rushed over to see a panicked couple, stating their young child needed help.
The couple was driving to the hospital when the child became unresponsive near the South Bend Police Department.
Without hesitation, Officer Meador grabbed the child and began chest compressions as medics approached. Before medics entered the lobby, the child had become responsive.
The family tells us the child is continuing to recover and is appreciative of Officer Meador's swift medical assistance.
