COLUMBIA, S.C. — Drug detection and cadaver dogs always make headlines for their impressive tracking skills, but what about electronic-sniffing dogs?
Electronic-sniffing dogs are trained to do just that — sniff out electronics. Whether it's a thumb drive, SD card, or even a phone, these dogs can find them.
That skill may come in handy when trying to find hidden devices, some of which humans could never find. And those devices could hold endless amounts of evidence, including thousands of images of child porn.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson met with one of the state's electronic sniffing dogs Thursday. Her name is Queue, and her sniffing skills left quite the impression.
The sniffing expert found each hidden electronic, no matter the location — the back of a power cord, inside a coffee container, and even inside a half-dollar coin that place in a jar full of change.
And even more of these K9s are on their way into the Palmetto State thanks to Defenders for Children. The organization, which helps prevent child abuse, hopes to provide at least seven or eight more electronic-sniffing dogs.
They would pays for the dog, the dog's training, the handler's training and some expenses. Law enforcement agencies would only pay for any remaining expenses.
