Kershaw church to host prayer vigil for Faye Swetlik

Even though they are an hour away, a church in Kershaw wanted to help and felt they needed to pray for Faye.

KERSHAW, S.C. — Plans are in place for another prayer vigil for Faye Swetlik, but not in the Cayce community.

Frontline Biker Church of Kershaw, an hour away from Swetlik's home in Churchill Heights, is hosting the event.

"I have a heart for children, and God spoke to me. God told me we need to pray for this child," said Pastor Cotton Pate.

Pastor Cotton says when he heard the news about 6-year-old Faye Swetlik, it felt personal.

"I have lots of grandchildren," said Pastor Cotton. "We have lots of kids here and it very well could have been one of ours."

CAYCE, S.C. - The family of Faye Swetlik speaking out after a prayer vigil on Tuesday night. Dozens of people gathered at Trinity Baptist Church Cayce to show their support in the search for the 6-year-old. She was last seen outside of her home on Londonderry Square on Monday afternoon.

He decided to host a prayer vigil Thursday night, and he's trying to get more churches to join.

"We're gonna pray this baby be found safe, brought home safe, but we're also going to pray for all the other missing children as well," he said. "You could probably tell by now we're not your average church. We have a big compassion for the lost, we have a big compassion for the needy. We don't need to know them...because God knows all."

Pastor Cotton will also pray for the families involved in a case that's front and center - not just in the Midlands - but across the nation.

"We don't do it for publicity. We don't do it to be seen," said Pastor Cotton. "We're not doing it so this family will like us. We're doing it so this family can find peace and comfort in this time of trial."

Thursday's vigil begins at 5:30 p.m., but it will not be at Frontline Biker Church. They've decided to host it at the Kershaw Farmers Market off Main Street in Kershaw. It's next door to the Kershaw Fire Department.

Everyone is invited, and candles will be ready for everyone to hold during the vigil.

"It'd be nice if [Faye is found] before we even had the prayer vigil. We'd still pray. We'd pray and thank Him."
