MARION COUNTY, S.C. — It's been a long week for Kilo, and his recovery may prove just as difficult — but at least now he's home with people who love him!

The Marion County Sheriff's Office posted a photo of their fellow officer as he arrived home Monday night. And while the homecoming was a happy one, deputies say they "find it so hard to look at this photo."

Kilo's wrapped legs, shaved fur and scars are visible signs of the tragedy he endured last week. Deputies found the dog "mercilessly shot" after he ventured out of his enclosure on April 2. He was rushed the North Carolina State University for reconstruction surgery on his leg.

"We thank them so much for saving our boy," the office said in a post.

Now that's he home, Kilo has a long road ahead, but deputies say he is in good spirits and hope he will be back on the team by the end of the year.

Kilo's story touched the hearts of thousands, and cards, packages and donations were sent in from around the country. The office asks you to continue to keep the beloved dog in your thoughts and prayers.

If you want to help with Kilo's medical expenses, check out his GoFundMe page. You can also send a card or package Marion County Sheriff's Office at 2715 East Highway 76 Mullins, South Carolina, 29574.

Deputies are still looking for any information about the person or people responsible for the shooting. A $2,000 reward is currently being offered for any information leading to an arrest.

Anyone who knows anything about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff's office at 843-423-8216.
