Lexington, SC (WLTX) - Lexington Town Councilman Ted Stambolitis has left his elected position.
Mayor Steve MacDougall said in a statement Tuesday he accepted the resignation of Stambolitis from the council. It goes into effect Wednesday.
"Mr. Stambolitis no longer meets the eligibility requirements of a qualified elector set forth in the Town of Lexington Ordinance 34.37," MacDougall said.
That ordinance states elected officials for the town must live in the city.
Stambolitis owns the Flight Deck restaurant. He's served on Town Council since 2004.
A special election will take place to fill the seat, but a date for that has not yet been set.
