Newberry Deputies Arrest Lake Murray Attempted Murder Suspect

Deputies arrested Matthew LeGrande Jackson, 28, following an all day manhunt.

Newberry, SC (WLTX) — Newberry deputies arrested an attempted murder suspect following an all day manhunt.

Matthew LeGrand Jackson, 28, of Johnston is accused of cutting and stabbing a man Wednesday evening.

A tip lead deputies to Sumter where they say Jackson was hiding. Sumter authorities helped take the suspect into custody.

Deputies say Jackson was arguing with the victim at the SCE&G Sunset Boat Landing. He left the area and then returned with his mother. They say the two confronted the victim and Jackson stabbed the victim several times.

According to investigators, his mother, Sheila Jackson Norton, 48, also participated in the assault and tried to hit another person with a car. Norton was also taken into custody Thursday night as an accomplice to the incident.

The victim was transported to Newberry Hospital and then to a Columbia area hospital for his injuries.
