President Biden, First Lady visiting Columbia this weekend

As Columbia prepares for a presidential visit, residents are expecting major traffic delays.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — From President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden coming to Columbia to USC basketball and other typical weekend events, residents expect a busy weekend ahead.

White House leaders started making their way to town on Friday, starting with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden attending the 40th annual Pink Ice Gala.

Diann Price Williams, the Alpha Kappa Alpha chapter president in Columbia, said the Pink Ice event drew a big crowd this year.

"We wanted something that would be memorable, and having First Lady Dr. Biden here is a great honor," Williams said with a smile. "We normally have a lot of traffic... but this one, I'm sure it's going to be a lot more because last year we had over 4,200 guests."

President Biden will be in town for a South Carolina Democratic Dinner and celebration at the state fairgrounds. The Rosewood building and the Ruff and Moore buildings are already decorated with patriotic bunting, blue wall fabric, and white tablecloths to prepare for the event.
