Richland County Administration building closed due to power outage, in-person county services on hold

The county said crews are working to restore power to the building.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Richland County Administration Building is closed Wednesday morning due to a power outage, affecting services that the building provides to residents.

The building, located at 2020 Hampton Street in Columbia, lost power due to the storms overnight. That's caused a delay in business operation for the building, which is where people can pay property taxes as well as many other services. It's also the headquarters for the county health department.

The county said crews are working to restore power to the building but they're asking people who need to access county services in person not to do so until operations have returned to normal. People can still use the county's online services at Richland County's website

A line of severe storms moved through the area in the early morning hours. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the county at one point and much of the region was under a tornado watch.

The storms late faded, however, and the risk of severe weather is now over.
