SC Lawmaker Wants Federal Investigation of Tri-County Electric

A letter sent to the WLTX Newsroom says that Rep. Brawley has, "grave concerns regarding possible corruption and other illegal activity" of the Tri-County Electric Cooperative Board.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina State Rep. Wendy Brawley has requested a federal investigation into possible illegal activities by the recently fired Tri-County Electric Cooperative Board.

A letter sent to the WLTX Newsroom says that Rep. Brawley has, "grave concerns regarding possible corruption and other illegal activity" of the Tri-County Electric Cooperative Board. She sent the letter to South Carolina U.S. District Attorney Sherri Lydon.

The request for an investigation comes amid allegations of financial mistreatment by former Tri-County Co-op board. These costs, Brawley says, were ultimately born by the co-op members.

"The members of the Tri-County electric Cooperative deserve to have the abuses and possible illegal activities of former board members fully investigated to be certain the wrong doing is exposed and punished," says Brawley.

Last Saturday, more than 1,400 customers of Tri-County Electric voted to remove the six board members. A day earlier, there were heated exchanges between the board and customers, who confronted the members over what they felt was mismanagement.
