COLUMBIA, S.C. — Deputies with the Richland County Sheriff's Department are investigating the death of a woman that was reported missing last week.
Back on November 9, deputies say they received a missing person report for 20-year-old Shandon Floyd.
Deputies say Floyd, who was staying at Roadway Inn with a friend, could not be reached by phone after borrowing her friend’s vehicle.
Floyd was alone and unresponsive late Tuesday night off Two Notch Road in Columbia, according to deputies.
Mason Powell, a close friend of Floyd, said she will be missed.
“Shandon was a very fun person, life of the party, kindhearted, would give you the shirt off her back,” Powell said. “When I met her, she was like a light. She was definitely the friend to get to know and the person to be around if you want to have a great time. And, you know, she loved her family and her brothers. She definitely loved them.”
Powell said Floyd was a leader, who was loved by many.
“She was definitely a leader and, as I was saying, a leader will have a certain light about you when you are a leader," Powell said. "She was never the friend to be following, She’d go her own way, march to the beat of her own drum. And that’s what made people want to be drawn to her because she was not the one to be like, 'Oh, if you want to do it, I will do it.' She is the one to say 'I’m going to do it, I’m going to go for it,' or 'I don’t care, I’m going to do it.' And that’s why people are drawn because she has such a strong mind. You don’t ever have to second guess her.”
Deputies say the case is still under investigation, as the autopsy report has not been released with cause of death. However, an initial investigation indicates no signs of foul play, according to deputies.
