Meet Elgin's newest council member

Cristy Bradley has taken the fifth seat on the council following a special election last week.

ELGIN, S.C. — Cristy Bradley is the newly elected and sworn-in Elgin council member. She's joining as the fifth person on the council, a seat she won during the special election last week.

"I believe in rolling up my sleeves," Bradley said following her swearing-in on Tuesday night. "I grew up on a farm and I believe you do the best you can, and you work hard for everything you can and you just make an honest living."

"I think that everybody needs to be involved in their community and a small community takes even the average person to make a difference, and I am just the average person," Bradley said. "I've lived in Elgin for the past 12 years."

In the daytime, Bradley is a paralegal, who loves spending time with family but she's ready to tackle her new role on town council with a few priorities in mind.

"For me, I think one of the biggest things is drug awareness to parents and children within," Bradley said. "We are a small community and have a wonderful police force but they also need more help, and I think the education on educating parents on what to look for with your children before it gets too late, before Elgin Police has to step in, is one big thing. And another one is keeping our community clean."

"I'm willing to bring on anything," Bradley said. "The council there right now is established. They are a good council. They've got a good system, and all I can do is just bring whatever they ask me to to the table."

Elgin's next Town Council meeting is May 2nd, with no time announced.
