SUMTER, S.C. — WLTX Street Squad is in your communities everyday working to tell the stories that matter to you.
On Tuesday, Lanoishia Wilder told News 19 Street Squad that she wanted to see a true reflection of her city, including activities for kids and career training opportunities.
SC Works has services in resume building, interview preparation and job searching.
Officials with the Sumter center say they also offer free training in popular area-industries, like healthcare and manufacturing. This includes training in welding, truck driving, phlebotomy and medical assistance.
"As long as you qualify for the training, it's absolutely free," said Albert Smith, a representative with SC Works. "That includes all services that we offer whether it's printing, faxing, computers, anything you need to run an office or to get a job is absolutely free."
They also have a monthly "back to work" program. It's a 30-day job preparation boot camp, which includes workshops on topics like interviewing, resume writing and financial readiness.
On Wednesday, May 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. they're hosting a job fair at the Sumter County Civic Center located at 700 West Liberty Street. The first 30 minutes will be for veterans only and up to 80 employers will be on site, Smith said.
"The important industries in our area will be there," Smith said. "Bring your resume, dress to success and be prepared to have an on-site interview, if necessary."
SC Works in Sumter is located on 31 East Calhoun Street, across from the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce.
