Child killed in Lexington County house fire identified

Multiple agencies are investigating the fire, which also displaced a family on Thursday evening.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities confirm a child died following a Thursday evening house fire in Lexington County.

According to a county spokesperson, the Lexington County Fire Service responded to a fire with someone potentially trapped inside around 6:30 p.m. at Peak Copper Court in the Boiling Springs area of the county.

The county said the first crews arrived within four minutes of learning of the fire, which involved a two-story home that was already burning heavily through the roof and backside. Officials said crews quickly began a search of the home and requested additional resources. The county said the fire was under control around 8 p.m.

According to the county, five people lived in the home, including two adults and three children. A four-year-old, Lucas Ramirez Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lexington County Coroner's Office. No one else was hurt.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and the coroner's office are investigating the death.
