New Lexington One superintendent is home-grown

Keith Price tells News19 he began teaching in 1996 at Greenville County School District after graduating from Clemson University.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — In the next three months, Lexington One will have a new face starting to guide big decisions for the school district. Keith Price is the newly contracted superintendent.

Over the course of the next school year, and beyond, Price will begin managing a school district of 28,000 students.

He currently serves as the superintendent for Georgetown County and has for the past four years.

However, while Price is brand new to Lexington One, he's quite familiar with another school district just 40 miles down the road.

"I grew up in Camden, South Carolina, so not too far away in Kershaw County," Price said.

He tells News19 he went to school in the Kershaw County School District before graduating from Clemson University.

"There were a lot of attractive reasons to consider applying (to Lexington). One, because of a stellar reputation that the school district has, strong academics, successful athletics programs, quality arts experiences and opportunities for students that just don't exist everywhere," Price said.

Beyond Kershaw, Price has 24 years of teaching and administrative experience with Richland Two.

"By and large, this is the most rewarding career choice that anyone could ever make because of the ability to impact the lives of so many people," Price said.

And education turns out to be a genetic passion too, that he's passed on to one of his four daughters.

"One is a freshman in college, studying to be an elementary education teacher," Price said.

Price tells News19 he will begin his new role on July 1, 2024, with a full year of transitional work alongside Dr. Postlewait for the 2024-2025 school year. After that, Price said is when he'll take on full responsibilities.

Lexington One will be posting on the district's social media pages about upcoming opportunities to meet the new superintendent.
