ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — An Orangeburg County man has been arrested and charged in the death of his three-month-old son.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced on Thursday that it had arrested 25-year-old Anthony Simpson on a charge of homicide by child abuse on March 1. SLED said the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office requested its Special Victims Unit Department of Child Fatalities.

The warrant for Simpson's arrest said that on Aug. 28, 2023, deputies responded to the 200 block of Frolic Meadows Lane in Orangeburg. The warrant states deputies found three-month-old Adrian Simpson unresponsive at the location. The infant was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. An autopsy found head trauma and hemorrhages, contusions to the jaw and a broken rib.

The warrant states that Simpson was the child's biological father and the child was in his custody. Further investigation and interviews determined that Simpson was responsible for the child's death.
