Town of Lexington announces new town administrator at special called meeting

In a Monday night's special called meeting in the Town of Lexington, the council gave several important updates.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Most municipalities in the Midlands are anticipating change in less than a month with the upcoming election cycle, but for the Town of Lexington, change started on Monday night with the appointment of a new town administrator.

"The council is excited to share that we have selected Rachelle Moody who currently serves as Assistant City Manager in the City of North Augusta, as the next Town Administrator," read Mayor Pro Tem Hazel Livingston.

Mayor Steve MacDougall says the newly appointed town administrator and the newly elected staff will hopefully help move the town forward and stay on track with their vision plan.

"We've just about completed the Vision Plan we started with in 2012. There's got to be some new ideas to come in," MacDougall said.

As a part of the vision plan, the town has hoped to preserve its rural character by allowing more space for pedestrians and those biking through the area.

"For example, we have the Old Mill trail, we have a trail at Gibson... That's the goal here, would be to create a master plan to see how they all fit together," said Transportation Director, Randy Edwards.

Safety was also part of the vision plan and was a big part of the conversation at the town's special meeting on Monday. Chief Terrance Green announced a new position for a Domestic Violence and Sexual Crimes investigator that the Town of Lexington Police Department was given a grant. The grant covers the first year of the new investigator's salary.

The town council will meet again on November 6, and as for the new Town Administrator, November 20 will be her first day.
