Two bodies found inside buring car in Sumter now deemed a homicide

The bodies were found in a car on Foxville Road.

SUMTER, S.C. — Two bodies found inside a burning car Monday afternoon has been ruled a homicide. 

Based on the autopsies conducted today at MUSC, the deaths of the two individuals that were found inside a fully engulfed vehicle on Foxville Road Monday have been ruled homicides. 

Autopsies that were performed Wednesday morning at the Medical University of SC in Charleston, revealed that we have a male and female victim.  

The cause of death on the male is trauma to the head, and the female is gunshot wound to the head. 

Sumter coroner Robert Baker said, "DNA testing will be done over the course of the next several days to help us determine who our victims are ."

The Sumter County Sheriff's Department is investigating along with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). 

The bodies were found on Foxville Road.  The Sumter Fire department had put out the fire by the time deputies arrived.  

 At this time, it is unknown if the homicides took place where the bodies were found or somewhere else.
