MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The mother of a man accused of attacking and injuring three people with a metal baseball bat in South Carolina says he's a former marine who had two traumatic brain injuries and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

News outlets report 29-year-old Ryan Knox is charged with four counts of attempted murder. Cindy Knox told the judge during her son's court appearance Friday that he has PTSD after serving in Afghanistan.

One of the victims also spoke at Knox's hearing. He says he invited Knox to his home Thursday after a night out drinking.

He says Knox became violent and hit him, his wife and their friend with a bat. The friend was able to escape with the couple's 2-year-old daughter.

The judge says Knox will receive a full examination while he's jailed.
