WASHINGTON — "Jeopardy!" is officially dipping its toes into streaming with a new spinoff.

On Tuesday, Amazon MGM Studios announced an order from Sony Pictures Television, which produces the popular game show, for a pop culture edition of the trivia game.

Named "Pop Culture Jeopardy!," the spinoff is a "brand-new twist" on the classic trivia show and aims to combine the "academic rigor" of the original show with the "excitement and unpredictability of pop culture."

It marks the first time that the "Jeopardy!" franchise has made an edition exclusively for a streaming platform.

How will the new "Jeopardy!" spinoff work?

"Pop Culture Jeopardy!" will feature a twist on the classic show's "answer-and-question" format.

Contestants will be split into teams of three and categories may range from alternative rock to Broadway and focus on celebrities like Zendaya. Teams will compete in a "tournament-style event for a grand prize and bragging rights."

The new show will exclusive air on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, according to the press release

No premiere date has been announced.

Who will host the new "Jeopardy!" spinoff?

Amazon MGM Studios hasn't revealed the host of the new pop culture edition of "Jeopardy!" but said a name will be revealed at a later date.

Emmy Award winner Michael Davies, who produces the original game show, will executively produce the new spinoff, according to Amazon.

After longtime host Alex Trebek's death, "Jeopardy!" struggled to find a new leading face.

Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik shared interim and then permanent hosting duties after Trebek's death. Bialik announced her departure from "Jeopardy!" last December and since then Jennings has been hosting the classic TV game show on his own.

"Jeopardy!" is currently airing its 40th season.
