Sen. Tim Scott signs paperwork to enter SC GOP primary in February

Scott is the fourth candidate to file since the filing period opened July 1st.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Senator Tim Scott is the fourth Republican candidate to file in the South Carolina GOP Presidential Primary, completing the paperwork Monday during a stop in Columbia.

Since the start of filing on July 1st, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former president Donald Trump, and now Scott have all filed for the race. Each of them hopes to be South Carolina's pick in the first in the South February 24th contest.

Scott held a rally at Doc's Barbeque in Columbia where he filed and met with supporters. Caroline Habib came to witness the signing and hear the senator address issues that Habib said are a priority for her.

"I want to know what the United States place would be in global politics in the welfare of the world really under a Tim Scott presidency,” she said.

While Habib looked to hear Scott address international affairs, others had concerns about issues happening here at home.

"Well the economy, how is he going to get the economy turned around to get more jobs back in America,” one supporter said at the rally.

Scott addressed these concerns with his own priorities.

"I said on the campaign trail everywhere I go that in order to protect America, we got to do at least three things number one is a close our southern border and save 70,000 lives. Number to stand toe to toe with China. It is not the strength of President Xi. It is the weakness of President Biden that is our problem,” Sen. Tim Scott said.

While Scott did not address the economy or Jobs, he did speak about the Israel-Hamas War.

"Last Saturday reminded me of the value of our citizenship it also reminded me of the importance of Psalms 122:6 pray for the peace of Jerusalem, those who do will prosper,” Scott said.

Republican candidates have until October 31st at 5 p.m. to file for the South Carolina GOP Primary. While Scott is the latest to file, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley has yet to do so.

The state's Democratic primary is set for February 3rd.
