MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - A huge yellow jacket nest estimated to be about 10 feet long has been cleared from a camper near Moncks Corner.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that (http://bit.ly/111EXlP ) that Robert McDougal of Hurry Up Towing had no idea there was a nest in the fold-down camper in his storage yard until he lifted it with a forklift Tuesday.
Eric McCool of McCool Wildlife Services estimated the nest be 10 feet long by 7 feet wide and 2 feet tall with an estimated 350,000 bees.
McDougal sat perfectly still and miraculously was not stung while lifting the camper with a forklift.
Yellow jacket nests are occasionally very large. A trash can-sized nest found in Charleston County in the 1990s was estimated to have 250,000 worker bees.
