Former Clemson All-American Lucas Glover gets ready for another trip down memory lane at the Masters

The 2009 U.S. Open champion has been coming to the Augusta National Golf Club since he was a youngster growing up in Greenville.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Unlike most golfers competing in the Masters, Lucas Glover's memories of his first Masters started long he earned his PGA Tour card.

When Lucas was 6 years old, his grandfather brought him to his first Masters and the story has been told of how young Lucas was sitting at #1 attempting to tie his shoe while sitting in an old metal chair that created some noise when the determined youngster moved in an effort to tie his shoe. The only problem was, the noise created by youngster was enough to make golfer Ben Crenshaw back off his tee shot at the first tee. That is how Lucas Glover made his debut at the Augusta National Golf Club,

The Greenville native's behavior is much better nowadays as he prepares to tee off in his 10th Masters. But with each return trip, Glover gets a chance to relive those days with his grandfather, the late Clemson Hall of Famer Dick Hendley, who introduced Glover to the place where golfers dream of wearing the Green Jacket.

On Wednesday in pre-tournament play, gates open at 8 a.m. with the Par 3 contest scheduled for noon.

Round One of the 2024 Masters Tournament begins Thursday, April 11, weather permitting, and will finish up with Round Four on Sunday.
