Lexington baseball is one win away from a state championship after defeating Ashley Ridge 1-0

In the 5A state championship series, the Wildcats take game one after stellar pitching performance by Jackson Burton

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington senior pitcher Jackson Burton went the distance and allowed three hits and striking out six as the Wildcats defeated  Ashley Ridge 1-0 in game one of the Class 5A state championship series.

Game two of the series is Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at Ashley Ridge with a Lexington win giving that program its first state title since 2013.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the first as Lexington scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded.

Both Burton and Ashley Ridge ace Andrew McLaughlin put on clinic on the mound with that one first inning run the only scoring in this classic pitchers' duel in game one.

Summerville 10, Lexington 0 (F/5)

In game two of the 5A state championship series for high school softball, Summerville capped off an undefeated season with a 10-0 run-rule win in five innings over Lexington.

The Green Wave win their second consecutive state championship and finish the season 30-0.
