GREENSBORO, N.C. — The 2024 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament kicked off Wednesday, March 6 at the Greensboro Coliseum.
It is both a high level of entertainment and basketball for fans across the Triad.
Last year the ACC Tournament in Greensboro generated 7.5 million dollars for the local economy and saw over 62,000 fans in attendance.
The tournament will be much more than bringing in the money and fans but highlighting women's basketball.
"A lot of times people would say they are basketball fans but they only watch men's basketball and so this tournament is a good way to show that women's basketball is basketball and we hope to convert more fans as we bring people out. It's really cool to see when a dad brings his daughter out or any family does. You know sports in general can be that connection for people," Carl Hairston, Jr. said, Associate Commissioner, Marketing & Content Strategy with the ACC.
Nine different ACC institutions have combined for 23 trips to the Women’s Final Four, with 2023 ACC Tournament Champion Virginia Tech making its first-ever appearance a season ago. ACC teams have made five trips to the Final Four in the last five seasons.
Over those five seasons, 40 teams have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament, the most among all conferences. Since 2014, the ACC has combined for 119 NCAA Tournament wins, the next closest conference has just 105.
FanFest starts today at the Special Events Center at 9 in the morning and will conclude at 6 this evening.
