CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets are trading veteran guard Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat in exchange for Kyle Lowry and a future first-round pick.
The Hornets will get a protected first-round pick from the Heat in the deal. According to the Hornets, the pick is lottery-protected and will convert to an unprotected first in 2028 if it doesn't convey. Lowry's future with the Heat had been up in the air recently as the former NBA champion adjusts to a bench role toward the end of his career.
“I want to thank Terry for all his efforts since coming to Charlotte,” Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak said. “On the court, he was a true professional and a great competitor who set a positive example for our young players. He also made himself a staple of the Charlotte community with his commitment to giving back. We wish him all the best in the future.
Rozier's in the middle of his best season since coming to Charlotte in 2019, averaging 23.2 points per game while shooting 46% from the field. He logged 11 points in Monday night's upset win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Charlotte originally acquired Rozier from Boston in exchange for Kemba Walker and a second-round pick. In five seasons, he averaged 20.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game with the Hornets.
Charlotte has won two of its last three games and will be in position to pick up another victory against Detroit Wednesday night. The Hornets will then return home for a four-game homestand against Houston, Utah, New York and Chicago.
