Blythewood, SC (WLTX) --- You would be hard-pressed to find a more giving teammate than Blythewood shortstop Ansley Gilstrap who has already signed with USC-Upstate.
However, it's not unusual for Gilstrap to be seen working with junior varsity players in an effort to make them better. Gilstrap says she hopes being named a News19 Player of the Week will inspire other girls to take up the sportso it can grow.
"Our JV team has a lot of new players and she knows everyone of them by name," says head coach Jordan Atkinson.
"She takes the time to talk to them every single day. She's always so encouraging and the younger players really feed off of that, that a senior who is going to (USC) Upstate would take time out of her day and out of her practice to help make them better."
In the classroom, Gilstrap sets an example there as she is currently maintaining a 4.6 grade point average while staying busy with her obligations on the diamond.
