Train track repair to close Assembly Street in Columbia

Norfolk Southern to conduct routine maintenance at crossing near Whaley and Assembly streets, traffic detours will be in place between April 20 and April 23

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Folks commuting into or out of Columbia along the southern portion of Assembly Street should be aware that Norfolk Southern will be conducting maintenance/repairs on their tracks that will impact the Assembly St. crossing in Columbia.

The crossing is located on Assembly St. between Catawba St. and Whaley St., near the University of South Carolina's Swearingen Engineering Center.

Norfolk Southern will begin work 8 a.m. Monday, April 20, and will close the Assembly Street crossing at that time. Plans are to have the heavily-trafficked road reopen by 8 a.m. Thursday, April 23.

The detour for the closure will be Blossom St. to Huger St. to Whaley St. Please follow the marked detour or seek alternate routes and remember to add additional time for the commute.
