Crews clearing chemical spill on I-20 westbound, traffic moving again near Broad River

One lane had been closed near Exit 68 as crews worked to clear spill

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Crews from Columbia-Richland Fire Department have cleared the scene of a hazardous chemical spill on I-20 west near the Broad River. A dump truck had a mechanical failure and spilled about 50 gallons of diesel fuel along the interstate shortly after 9:30 a.m.. 

The incident occurred near mile marker 67, one mile west of Exit 68-SC 215, and had closed one lane of traffic between Broad River and Monticello roads. 

South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is overseeing the cleanup. No injuries were reported. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area until cleanup is complete.
