NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — Drivers on I-26 heading either way near the Newberry County-Lexington County line hit a significant slowdown on Saturday after a crash moved a barrier wall.

The Little Mountain Fire Department said it was working with the Lexington County Fire Service near mile marker 89, where a tow truck crash pushed a concrete barrier wall into oncoming lanes.

As a result, all lanes of eastbound I-26 were shut down, and one lane of westbound traffic was temporarily impacted.

Traffic was also hindered by the closure of the nearby U.S. 176 bridge, which led to a warning from the Newberry County Sheriff's Office advising drivers to find another route.

As of 8:30 p.m., traffic cameras showed east and westbound traffic moving smoothly again. However, the South Carolina Department of Transportation maps still showed some congestion for eastbound drivers.
