COLUMBIA, S.C. — Drivers who regularly travel in the area of Bush River Road and Colonial Life Boulevard may see some traffic changes as a nearby frontage road closes for the next few months.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced the closure of a section of Lawand Drive and Morninghill Drive that will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday and continue until Aug. 7.

The roads are closed from the intersection of Arrowwood Road and Lawand Drive to the intersection of Morninghill Drive and Frontage Road.

According to maps provided by the SCDOT, a detour will be in place that begins at the intersection of Bush River Road and Arrowwood Road and continues to the intersection of Arrowwood Road and Lawand Drive.

The closure is part of the Carolina Crossroads Phase 1 project in Richland and Lexington counties. During the time that the route is closed, contractors and others will be performing utility work and other improvements to the exit ramp to U.S. 378 - also known as Sunset Boulevard - from I-26 eastbound.

According to SCDOT, a full-access interchange will be built at Colonial Life Boulevard at I-126 in Richland County and will replace exits that access I-26 from Bush River Road.
