Coroner identifies 3 killed in Newberry County head-on crash

Two teens were killed in one vehicle and a 21-year-old in the other.

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — The Newberry County Coroner's Office has released the names of three people who died in a Friday afternoon crash - all of whom were 21 or under.

According to Coroner Laura Kneece, the crash happened around 3:15 p.m. in the area of SC 121/34 near Industrial park Road. The crash involved two vehicles.

Kneece identified the victims as 17-year-old Jasmine Rosas of Saluda who was driving as well as 17-year-old Jason Santos, also of Saluda, who was her passenger. Also killed was 21-year-old Colin Kittrell of Greer who was the driver of the other vehicle.

All were pronounced dead at the scene and, according to Kneece, were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), Rosas was driving a 2016 Nissan Sentra and Kittrell was in a 2019 Jeep Cherokee when both vehicles collided head-on.

Autopsies have been scheduled for the upcoming week as the coroner's office and the SCHP Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team continue their investigation.
