LEE COUNTY, S.C. — Investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol report that one person is dead and another was flown to an area hospital after a head-on crash in Lee County on Saturday.
Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell said the crash happened just before midnight in the area of Sumter Highway (US-15) and Golf Cart Road roughly 2.5 miles south of Bishopville. Tidwell said that a 2009 Dodge Ram was heading south on US-15 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2003 GMC Yukon that was heading north.
The driver of the Dodge was injured in the crash and airlifted to McCleod Medical Center in Florence. The driver of the GMC died at the scene.
The highway patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is assisting in the investigation.
The Lee County Coroner's Office has not yet released the name of the deceased.
