RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies have arrested a man on murder charges one day after a passerby found a person dead along a Richland County road.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department said 31-year-old Marcus Tyree Richmond was arrested on Friday afternoon following an investigation into a body found a day earlier. Authorities said that a man was coming home from work around 7 p.m. on Thursday when he noticed a man unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the side of the road near Widgean Drive and Blue Ridge Terrace.

Emergency Medical Services declared the victim dead at the scene, and the coroner's office responded.

Authorities haven't said what led to the shooting, and the coroner's office hasn't released the name of the deceased, though the incident report said he was a 30-year-old man.

Richmond was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where records show he also faces charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, first-degree domestic violence and first-degree burglary. A judge hasn't set a bond for the first two charges. A $20,000 surety bond was set for the latter charges.
