Body of man found in car outside police station in town of Norway

NORWAY, S.C. — Orangeburg County deputies are investigating after a man was found shot to death outside the Norway Police Department.

According to an incident report from the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, a man driving down Highway 321 noticed a Dodge Charger parked in the road outside the Norway Police Station and Town Hall. The man stopped his car and checked out the vehicle, and he noticed several bullet holes in it. The man then called law enforcement.

When deputies arrived, they found a man sitting in the driver's seat who was unresponsive. The deputy tried to open the door, but it was locked and then broke the passenger side window to get into the vehicle.

The officer said he yelled at the man and thought he saw the body twitching. When EMS arrived, however, they pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Officers said they found shell casings near the intersection of Highway 321 and Highway 400.

Investigators said the man was from Allendale. The coroner has not yet identified the victim.

The report said officers were investigating the case as a homicide, but they have not yet said what they think may have led up to the death. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
