Troopers said they are looking for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Richland County.

Richland County, SC (WLTX) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a three vehicle accident killed one bicyclist, and they are searching for the vehicle that fled the scene.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the bicyclist as 40-year-old Justin Turner from Elgin. An autopsy indicated Turner died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Lance Corporal Matt Southern said they are looking for a vehicle that may be silver in color. They do not know the make and model of the vehicle, and do not have a description of the driver.

Troopers said the accident happened just after 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Hard Scrabble Road and Lake Carolina Boulevard. A BMW was traveling north on Hard Scrabble Road and they bicyclist was traveling west on Lake Carolina Boulevard in the right lane.

L. Cpl. Southern said the vehicle they are searching for pulled up in the left hand lane on Lake Carolina Boulevard, failing to yield the right-of-way to the BMW. The BMW took evasive action, swerving to the right, striking the bicyclist, and then going off the right side of the road. The possibly silver car then fled the scene.

Troopers said the driver of the BMW did not suffer any injuries. The bicyclist was taken by EMS to Palmetto Health Richland, where they died of their injuries.
