Student assaulted by staff member at school, Cayce police say

Once released, police said the student remained in a fetal position on the floor "crying hysterically" and momentarily becoming non-verbal.

CAYCE, S.C. — A Cayce Elementary School staff member is accused of assaulting a student last week, according to an arrest warrant.

The incident happened on Thursday, April 18, at the school, according to an incident report by Cayce Police.  

Police state in the report that Carolyn Ann Glen, a staff bookkeeper and employee of Lexington District Two, grabbed a 9-year-old student when the report said he attempted to run from Glen. 

Police said Glen then shoved him into a wall and forcefully down to the floor. While the student was down on the floor, police said Glen grabbed his shirt and collar, lifted him up again, then once again shoved him into a wall. 

Once released, police said the student remained in a fetal position on the floor "crying hysterically" and momentarily becoming non-verbal. Police said the incident was documented by witnesses as well as video surveillance from the school.

Glen is charged with second degree assault and battery of a juvenile student.

Lexington School District Two, which Cayce Elementary is a part of, released the following statement: 

"An employee at Cayce Elementary was suspended immediately, pending the outcome of an investigation in connection with an inappropriate interaction involving a student in a school hallway that same day.

"The district maintains policies about staff conduct with students, and violations of these policies can lead to discipline, up to and including termination and possible legal consequences.

"The district will not have further comment, given that it is an ongoing legal matter."
