Residents at a Columbia apartment complex without water for a week, now boiling water

Some residents at Wyndham Pointe Apartment Homes have been without water because of a leak in a main water line, now these residents are boiling water.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Residents at Wyndham Pointe Apartment Homes have been without water for almost a week and now that they do have water one resident says she cannot use it.

"It's brown, it's black they said to run the water before you actually use it, and of course, a 24-hour water advisory and you know we'll go from there but of course, I'm not going to use the water yet," the woman said.

People living in three different buildings in Wyndham Pointe noticed they had no water last Wednesday, and tried reporting it to the management office. We spoke with Jazmine, a resident at the complex who did not want to go on camera, but says it has been difficult to live without running water.

"It's been pretty barbaric I have literally purchased almost $100 worth of water in between gallons of water and just drinking water," Jazmine said. "I never really realized how much water we used on a day-to-day basis until you're providing for yourself and your 9-year-old. Very crazy."

On Monday, Columbia Water helped answer some prayers by helping perform an emergency shut-off of the main water line, giving enough time for plumbers to patch the leak and then the water was turned back on.

Clint Shealy with Columbia Water said, "We did everything we could to get the water back on and get service to the people of Wyndham Pointe."

Now that the water has been turned back on a boil water advisory is in effect.

The advisory is supposed to last for the next 24 hours. The apartment complex sent residents a letter to residents Monday advising residents to boil their water. The letter said, "Your water has been restored. Due to the water break repair, we are issuing a water boiling advisory 24hr. We have also removed your faucet aerators to prevent clogs and damage to your apartment faucets. We will return to install them on Wednesday. We appreciate your patience."
