Columbia Fire responds to two house fires on Saturday; multiple people displaced

The separate fires happened on Smith Street and West Beltline Boulevard. The latter resulted in two people being transported with minor injuries.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Fire says multiple people were displaced in two separate house fires on Saturday, one resulting in minor injuries.

A department spokesperson said the first fire happened around 10 a.m. in the 2000 block of Smith Street. Fire officials said the fire started on the outside but spread to the attic. There were no injuries, but an adult and four children were forced out of the home.

A second fire happened around 1:40 p.m. in the 3700 block of West Beltline Boulevard. The home was a total loss and resulted in two people being taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Eight adults were displaced. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
