Dorn VA Medical Director steps down.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) The Medical Director of the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical center has stepped down. We received this statement from Dorn VA, stating "Effective August 1st, Dr. David Omura has assumed the responsibilities of Acting Director for the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina. We appreciate Dr. Omura's assistance and leadership as Dorn VA continues to serve Veterans. We wish Dr. Timothy McMurry well as he pursues other opportunities and we thank him for his years of VA and military service."

Last week Dr. McMurry talked to us about a medical privacy issue. Dr. Tim McMurray told us, employees looking at others records was not a fireable offense and that they have accountability measures in place based on their policy. He said, "They'll be held accountable, but not every instance is deemed a firing. We have accountability measures built in to our policy and that could be anything from an admonishment or reprimand, all the way up to a removal."

It is important to note, that the statement did not say the reason for Dr. McMurray's leaving his post as medical director.
