SUMMERTON, S.C. — A family of five is out of their home after a massive fire in Summerton that happened on Monday morning.
Officials with Clarendon County Fire Rescue said that the first crews were called out to North Church Street around 2:30 a.m. and found visible flames coming from the residence when they arrived minutes later.
The homeowner, who was outside, told fire crews that everyone had already made it out of the structure. For about two hours, four engines and 18 personnel fought the fire. An ambulance was also at the scene.
While crews were able to get the fire under control, the home suffered damage from fire, smoke, and water throughout, authorities said. The cause is still under investigation.
During the fire, police from Summerton and the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office also helped with traffic control.
Officials said that there are already funding accounts available in the town to help the family of two adults and three children.
