U.S. Army offers unique experience at State Fair booth

The U.S. Army's booth had activities for all, including a deadlift competition, a free video game truck and a puppy as their mascot.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina State Fair honored active and retired service members Monday, with Military Appreciation Day. Any member of that group could get in free, as long as they had their military identification card.

Allyn Hinton is a veteran that served in the Marine Corps and took advantage of today's deal with his family. "It's always great to have somebody say they appreciate you." 

Speaking of military at the State Fair, the United States Army's booth hosts many activities at their booth. One of them is a new gaming truck which offers free gaming inside.

This truck can hold up to six players at a time and provides popular games such as Rocket League, NBA 2K, Madden, Mortal Combat, Call of Duty and more. 

They are also hosting, a deadlift competition, giving away merch and fair goers have the chance to meet Rambo, their mascot.

Erwin Evans is a recruiter for the U.S. Army and says the booth is a way to build relationships with the community. 

"The presence here at the fair is just so, you know, we get the information out,” said Evans. “Engage with the community and just kind of build that rapport with the community." 

Friday, October 20th is the final military appreciation day where active and retired military gain free admission to the South Carolina State Fair.
