Meet the SC State Fair hypnotist Ron Diamond

Diamond, who combines his skills as an illusionist and magician with the art of hypnotism, offers fair attendees a unique and entrancing experience.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina State Fair, known for its thrilling rides and culinary delights, boasts another spectacle that mesmerizes audiences at the fair.

The captivating performances by certified hypnotist Ron Diamond have become a must-see attraction.

Diamond, who combines his skills as an illusionist and magician with the art of hypnotism, offers fair attendees a unique and entrancing experience.

"I am an illusionist and magician who deals with sleight of hand and misdirection, classic magic, and then also do a mentalism show, which is what we call the magic of the mind," Diamond explained.

With 38 years of experience as a certified hypnotist and over 20,000 shows at state fairs across the nation, Diamond has a unique perspective on his craft.

Diamond says that hypnosis is not about making people do things but about inducing a state of heightened enjoyment and relaxation.

"They really get high on the fun," Diamond said. "They get a nice endorphin and adrenaline release, just like they do on those rides out there," said Diamond.

Preparing for his shows is a meticulous process for Diamond, requiring two hours of daily preparation. Throughout his career, he estimates that he has hypnotized approximately 800,000 people.

Safety remains paramount during his performances, and he says that no one has ever been hurt during his shows.

"Everything's about safety. And that's what I emphasize, that I don't let them get out of sorts and running around and going crazy to the point that they're not totally aware and safe in what they're doing," Diamond said.

So, can everyone be hypnotized?

"Everyone has been. But here's the difference. Hypnosis is what makes things happen on purpose that generally happen by accident," Diamond said. "People always find themselves in a state of hypnosis in different elements, but they don't realize it. It just happens.”

Fairgoers have multiple opportunities to experience Ron Diamond's performances throughout the weekend at the South Carolina State Fair.
