Fairfield County seeks public input to redefine the housing landscape

The survey focuses on housing issues, rental opportunities, and more.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Fairfield County is looking for the public’s help on the future of housing in the area.

“With all the development that’s happening around Fairfield County we want to make sure we’re able to capitalize on incoming industry, incoming development and one of the things we realized is there is a need for housing,” says Gene Stephens, Public Information Officer for Fairfield County.

Stephens is urging residents and those who work in the area to fill out the survey, as they look for the perfect builds to shape their community.

“So it’s important for us to find out where we stand as far as rental properties, medium income households, things like that so we can address those issues in the development process in an effort to have smart development and smart growth, “he adds.

The survey begins with demographics and then moves to housing issues, house priorities, parks, playgrounds, businesses.

It’s a survey resident Liz Bankhead has taken advantage of, “It is our time as citizens to stand up and guide our county council for how we want the growth in Fairfield County to happen. Some of the concerns we’ve talked about is start in the city of Winnsboro, use some of the buildings that already exist, change them over, and add in some closer-end rental properties for people who have problems with transportation,”.

Stephens says it’s important as more people eye the area thanks to Scout Motors and growth in Columbia & Charlotte.

“The last housing development we actually had come in was 25 years ago, but we are starting to see more interest from housing developers wanting to come into our county because of the expanding industrial base that we’re starting to get,” Stephens adds.

The survey is open to residents until November 9th, the results will be presented to the County Council on November 14th at 6:00 p.m.
