Sunday afternoon fire damages home in Irmo

One person at the home also suffered a minor injury but didn't need to be taken to a hospital, officials said.

IRMO, S.C. — Fire heavily damaged a home in the Friarsgate community on Sunday afternoon, Irmo fire officials say.

According to a spokesperson for the Irmo Fire District, the fire happened on Fallsbury Road around 2:30 p.m., and firefighters from Irmo, Lexington County, and Columbia responded. 

One person at the home received minor injuries but wasn't taken from the scene for treatment. Citing the homeowner, fire officials said the fire appears to have begun in the garage and spread to the home. The second floor received significant fire damage, and the bottom floor was damaged by water.

Fire officials said the fire was under control in roughly 45 minutes.

The specific cause wasn't available at the time. One person was displaced. 

It was the second fire to happen at a home in the Irmo area on Sunday. Another occurred in the early morning hours on Firebranch Street
