Maryland man killed after being struck by car in West Columbia

Officials say the man was in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Edmund Highway.

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Maryland man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in West Columbia, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

Marvin Orlando Felipe Perez, 34, of Halethorpe, Maryland died in a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident in the 4000 block of Edmund Highway in the West Columbia area of Lexington County on April 3, 2024, at approximately 6:40 am, according to Fisher. 

Officials say Perez was in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Edmund Highway. He was pronounced dead on scene due to the injuries sustained in the collision. The driver remained on scene and was not injured.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
