Lottery system will get your child into two Lexington school district schools

Over the past two years, the district put an enrollment freeze at Chapin Elementary and Lake Murray Elementary because of the growth of population in the area. If your child has been affected by the enrollment freeze, there may be a way to get your child into one of these two schools.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington-Richland School District Five has announced a lottery system where students affected by the current enrollment freeze may be able to go to Lake Murray or Chapin Elementary Schools.

The school district sent out a press release on Wednesday saying:

“This opportunity will only be provided to students currently reassigned to other schools due to Phase 1 and Phase II of the enrollment freeze, which were implemented January 22, 2018 and January 22, 2019 respectively.”

Over the past two years, the district put an enrollment freeze at Chapin Elementary and Lake Murray Elementary because of the growth of population in the area. The school district says they want to keep class sizes to “acceptable levels and not overload instructional programs.”

Lexington-Richland School District Five found some open seats at both Chapin and Lake Murray after looking enrollment throughout the year. However, they don’t know the exact number of seats available at this time.

So, if your child has been affected by the enrollment freeze, there may be a way to get your child into the schools — you can enter them into the lottery.

Applications open up June 3 and will stay open until June 13. You can either apply online or fill out a paper form.

The district says they will notify you by June 19 if your child was selected in the lottery. At that point, you’ll have from June 19-27 to notify the district if you accept.

District officials say students who are currently at Lake Murray or Chapin Elementary will not be impacted by the lottery.
