South Carolina Humanities brings annual fair to Orangeburg County

Orangeburg County will be given the chance to share their culture and tradition with visitors and festival attendees.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina Humanities is bringing their annual festival to Orangeburg County this weekend.

Orangeburg will be given the chance to share their culture and tradition with visitors and festival attendees.

Doctor Isaiah McGee is a board member for South Carolina Humanities and says showcasing the culture of Orangeburg is a goal for the committee.

“We think it’s very important that everyone gets to experience culture,” said Dr. McGee. “One of the missions of the South Carolina Humanities is culture for all to spread the word about what the humanities can do for humanity.”

Some of the activities being offered this weekend are a historic church tour, a spoken word concert, jazz at the pavilion, a teen anime night, cooking classes, an author exhibition and more.

Ashley Bryan is the executive director of the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association and says Orangeburg is the prime location to have the festival.

“We just want you to come out and explore,” said Bryan. “We are the gateway. So whether you are coming to or from Columbia or going down to Charleston we’re smack dab in the middle. So it’s a great place for families to come.”

The opening night reception will take place this Thursday at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center.

All events for the festival are free of cost and open to the public.
