The Town of Lexington gives updates on park and traffic signals

In a Monday night meeting, the Mayor and town council talked about their Vision Plan and traffic improvements in the area.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — There’s a lot of new happening in the Town of Lexington as they get further into the summer.

The Town of Lexington hosted a regular council meeting on Monday to talk about new things happening around town, starting with their vision plan. The latest update included information on Virginia Hylton Park.

"The plan is to open the park in sections as they are completed, but for now the park remains closed," said Mayor Steve MacDougall.

Wesley Crosby, the assistant town administrator, is over the Virginia Hylton Park project and explained what crews are doing now.

“Currently we are working on the infrastructure still for the park, so things like storm drainage, we're doing infrastructure footings for the restroom building, we have a small amphitheater that we're working on," Crosby stated. "I would say probably in the middle of the summer, you'll probably be able to see what's going on from the sidewalk."

Another project in progress is a traffic signal in a pretty busy spot on Augusta Road.

“The US-1 at I-20 work continues with the recent relocation of Dooley Road to a new traffic signal next to Bojangles. Other signal improvements at the I-20 ramps are expected in the next couple of months," said Mayor Pro-Tem, Hazel Livingston.

The Town of Lexington says they will continue to provide updates on the park and their vision plan every month.

SCDOT is in charge of the new traffic signal near I-20 and will provide updates as the road becomes construction free again.

The next Town of Lexington council will meet again for a work session on April 17.
